Skiing fun

My husband work at a local ski resort, Snowbird. We haven't taken full advantage of our benefit we get because he works there.
I took the day off because the kids had the day off too. I wanted to go skiing. With recent snow here in Utah. I was hoping for a good day. I'm a fair weather skier. I like the fresh snow but I want the sun and no wind. That is a rare combination. But we got that today. The kids didn't really want to go but the threat of having to clean the house didn't sound as much fun as skiing.
A perfect day on the slopes and the children did great. Phoenix is feeling more comfortable getting off the lift with me ( I snowboard not ski like the kids). Jersey is a speed demon on the slopes and loves to try to jump. After lunch the kids were done with skiing. Me? I wanted to keep going, I had to given in to the whines. I had a great workout though. I am hoping to have a chance to ski again just Mike and I before the season is

Our Valentine's weekend

On Friday I helped with Jersey's Valentine's party. I was planning on doing a craft with the kids but since it was short day. The children passed out their cards, ate a snack, cleaned up and the went home. So, so much for doing anything crafty, I'm OK though because it was fun to watch each child pass out their cards and treats. Jersey was thrilled that we would come. Phoenix made a friend and the two of them played in the kitchen area the entire time. They were singing and talking about all sorts of stuff. It was pretty cute.
Saturday morning I woke to breakfast in bed. I was not expecting anything from Mike. It was really sweet. We ate together before he had to go to work. Mike's mom and dad had also invited us for breakfast so we went over there later to have another feast. There was a ton of good food.

Mike and I had talked about taking the kids up to go skiing so after brunch we rested and then got ready to go to Snowbird. Saturday was Phoenix's official day on the hill. He was nervous but by the end he was having a good time. I also got to watch Jersey ski for the first time without any help. She did a great job. Since it was dark I wasn't able to get any video. But she is really fast. She has more to learn but I'm glad that both of them enjoy it. I even snowboarded. I was a little nervous at first because I didn't want to fall. The snow was perfect because it was fresh snow. When we went skiing it was just after it cleared up. I didn't want to stop but both children were complaining about being cold. Phoenix kept saying that he was going to find us a room at Snowbird. So that we could spend the night. I wasn't planning on that I was planning on some delicious Chili's takeout when I got home. We ate our food and stuffed ourselves silly with chocolate molten cakes. A good end for a good day

For President's day Mike was in charge of putting up flags in our neighborhood. The kids love when there is a flag and they had to get their picture taken. But for some crazy reason superheros and little pet shop always seem to make in our photos. HMMM... I need to work on that.

They can't contain themselves

The Snow mania has hit our home. With the Ski Resorts opening up and our Annual Vacation to Snowbird coming up the kids can't stop talking about it.
We had been looking for new skis for Jersey because we wanted to get Phoenix excited about skiing this year. I had resigned myself into not getting her skis because all the good sales had passed and why buy skis when she was just going to grow out of them?

So last week when Mike came home early from work he took the kids to Sports Chalet, a fabulous sporting goods store that we tend to find great deals at. Mike found out that on Friday they would be discounting all of their clearance merchandise for 50% off the all ready mark down price. That was a pretty good deal and what was even better is that I found skis, binding, and boots for Jersey all under $150. That made me even more happy. Now Phoenix gets to learn to ski and Jersey hopefully will get even better with her new fabulous skis.
I let the kids walk around in their boots and skis. I suppose I opened a can of worms because now they won't take them off.

Jersey's show

SKIING

On Saturday Mike,Jersey went skiing. Megan and I went snowboarding. I haven't been snowboarding since before Phoenix was born. How sad is that? Here I have a husband who works at a posh ski resort and I'm totally not taking advantage of it. Oh wait I work too and take care of kids. I forgot.

Snowboarding was like riding a bike, it just comes back to you when you haven't done it in awhile. I have never been snowboarding at night so that was a new experience. I have to say that it was good up until it got really dark and I started to have no depth perception. (I know I'm totally blind)

My body is still dying over the fact that I did some kind of excerise. Not to mention all the crazy bruises that I have.

Enough about me, Jersey did a great job making her french fries and pizza on the slopes. By the end she was out in front of Mike zooming along. I'm very impressed in the patience that Mike had with Jersey. Way to go hun.

I can't wait for when we do that again.

P.S. Phoenix thought that he was so cool to go to Grandma's house all by himself.
