Since the beginning of the year Mike and I were in the process of refinancing our house. Some thought we were crazy, others thought what for, others said "it can be a good decision" I talked to more than just my mortgage broker about the situation.
Mike and I have been dreaming a finished basement basically since we moved into our house. 3 years ago we purchased the majority of the supplies. It was fast going at the beginning. Mike did all the framing and we were able to get a fireplace installed. But when it came to the wiring Mike was a little more hesitate. Since our lives don't include a lot of together time it was harder for him to continue because the kids seemed to be in the way but there wasn't anything for me to do since I was working. So late nights and weekends became Mike's new past-time.
To be honest I started to get frustrated because our neighbors that started finishing their basements at the same time were already done. But we had another major problem.....MONEY!!! We thought about of refinancing last year but we didn't see how it was going to help us. So we didn't do it and Mike continued to work on the wiring.
To our happy surprise when we saw the rates went down we knew that we could do it and we could get money to make our house bigger and the best part save money. What a deal.
Now the new wait is waiting for the contractor that is doing the drywall to come and start. We are ready and totally excited. It's going to be fun to have more room when people come over. We have a lot of interior decisions to make. Mike and I are stubborn and we want it each other's way. I'm hopeful that we can work it out.
