Stealing Chocolate

Well on Friday I ran into Wal-mart to grab some salad dressing that I needed. I also had to get some movies from the $5.00 bin. (Superman Returns and Fiddler on the Roof) I decided to stand in the fast checkout lane, which is amazing to me that they say that but most of the time I stand in line for like 45 minutes, no fast. I'm sure most people can relate that when you go to the grocery store the kids love to look at all the nifty gadgets that they have or candy surrounding the checkout lane. Well as I was checking out my three items. Phoenix shows me a chocolate Cadbury egg. I didn't want to buy that so I said "put it back." As I turned to watch Phoenix put the candy back, a lady to people back, yells at me "HE TOOK A BITE OUT OF IT, YOU NEED TO BUY IT" Phoenix in the mean time had thrown the candy in the bin. I told him to search for it. The lady that yelled got on the ground and helped Phoenix find the half eaten candy. I handed it to the oblivious Wal-mart employee and paid for the candy. I was fuming $0.53, ridiculous!
I had to feed the kids some food so we went to McDonald's, I don't like to reward bad behavior but I was in a rush. When we got into the car. I looked at Phoenix and told him that we don't steal, just because the candy is in a open box, it's not free. Then he looked at me so serious and said "but Mom, the chocolate was so good and it was white in the middle delicious." I tried not to smile but he was so cute.
I understand his love for chocolate. When you need it, you need it. But not by stealing.
