Exhausted"

We are here in the great state of AZ! We had a nice drive not to many complaints from the peanut gallery. Jersey and Phoenix were great travelers and we were "old fashion" without a DVD player.
We rolled into my Aunt's house about 2:30am. When we got here Phoenix was awake and ready to roll! Mike and I couldn't stay up with him so he played in the room that we were sleeping in. He was just talking and wanting to play duck, duck, GOOSE! But ever since we have been here it's been go go GO! Not a moments rest for the weary. But that is ok, because that is what we came to do. I was planning on working hard and getting little sleep.
My sister is getting married on Saturday and my Grandparents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, so you can imagine the stress and work that we are doing to get ready for the big days ahead. Today we spent the whole day working on my Grandparents backyard and house. At first I was little upset that these things weren't taken care of before. I was the under the impression that only a few things needed to be done. This was not the case. But we got right in and took care of the problem.  After all our hard work we sat out on the nicely cleaned up patio and ate pizza enjoying the spring air. I have to say that was one special moment hanging out with my brother and sisters with their spouses, my parents and my other sister along with my grandparents. It felt good!
There hasn't been a time that I have come to AZ just to hang out and not work. When this happens I feel cheated of my vacation and time that I could be spending on something else but when I really look back on how I helped someone or that I made a "cooler" memory by working beside my family it makes me smile a little more and appreciate my family. I don't know what I would do if these weren't working vacations, I might have to spend some money on some fun.

Rhiannon, you're awesome. I can tell from your post that you had an exhausting weekend, but you're truly an inspiration to seek out the positive in all of it.

I'm just sad that I didn't get to see you this weekend. You need to come to Arizona and not be busy so our families can get together and our kids can play.

I too was exhausted by this trip and vowed that my next vacation would not involve any work. But looking back I can't imagine the trip being any different. Once we had completed the tasks we set out to do there was a great sense of accomplishment that would not have been there had we just sat around the pool all day sipping Mai Tai's. I too thought that sitting with your family was a unique experience and a great opportunity for your entire family to bond that we don't get because of the physical distance between us all. It was an opportunity to experience the personalities of the newest members of the family. I am sure this was a happy moment for your parents and should have been for your grand-parents as well. I hope that we can get together with your family to do this more often.
