One of our family's NEW RESOLUTIONS is to give up satellite T.V. We have taking an inventory on how we spend most of our days and nights and it's in front of the T.V. (It's mostly our nights that we spend in front of the T.V.) During these last few weeks because "the shows" haven't been on we have noticed that we tend to do more things as a family. It's quite nice, I have to say. (Plus we are trying to cut back on some bills and spending in the New Year but that is a different story) So on Friday I officially cancelled Dish Network. I spent over a half an hour on the phone explaining that I didn't want my Dish and DVR anymore. I could hear the giggle in the customer service reps voice. I told them that we are going without cable for a year. They gave me many options of what I could do like I could just get local channels for a low price of $6.99 a month or I could place the dish on hold for 6 months and then decide to turn it back on after the six months. All of these choices began to make me think if we were doing the right thing? Are we crazy to go back to the old fashion days of an antenna on our t.v.? No more DVR to record our shows we will have to relearn how to us the VCR to record shows. We use to mock people that didn't use DVR and now we aren't going to have one. (what hypocrites)
We have had people say it's going to be short lived. The T.V. is like Mike's life line to sports, his drug to get his Sportcenter. Mike's best friend said that we will only last 3 months. I'm now out to prove him wrong we can do it.
We have set up some goals we hope will help us stay on track to our cause.

We found a great scripture to know what we are doing is right.
It is in D&C 136:11 And if ye do this with a pure heart, in all faithfulness, ye shall be blessed; you shall be blessed in your flocks, and in your herds, and in your fields, and in your houses, and in your families.
What a great promise.
So one more day for Satellite T.V.

Get it all in while you can!! LOL, I have thought the same thing since the shows have all been reruns, not about cancelling our dish, but how I don't watch as much TV. I kind of like it cause I want to watch more movies rather than Greys or Desperate, or Heroes or something.. It's been nice, however I do look forward to what happened to Lynettes family after the twister.
Kidding! Youll do good. you need to come by and play ROCK BAND.. it's awesome!
i've said before, but your kids are hilarious... and yes, i can tell that just from the pictures. i don't think you are crazy at all. we didn't have a TV for the first 8 months we were married and i often wish we could go back to that. once you get used to not having it, it's really not a big deal. good luck!
Good luck you guys! T.V. definitly does take up so much time of our lives too.
i have faith in you rhiannon! :)
Wow you are so brave! We went from digital cable and DVR to regular tv and that was THE HARDEST thing to do!!! Once you have DVR it is just so hard to do without it. We are a year without ours and if we could afford to have it back, we would get it back in a heart beat! We make the rationalization that because we can DVR things, that means we can watch them at times that are more convenient for our family and not in the middle of family time. I know...we rock at rationalizing.
